When it comes to international development, technology moves fast. Whether implementing global or local programs, knowing that you are getting the right data for making decisions and reporting results can make the difference between success and failure.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our Fall 2016 Tech for Monitoring and Evaluation Online Diploma Program, a 16-week online program starting September 12th. This course is comprised of three four-week courses offered at a discount for those taking the full diploma:

  1. Technology for Monitoring & Evaluation
  2. Technology for Data Collection & Survey Design
  3. Technology for Data Visualization

This is the third time that we have run our program, which has been taken by over 250 students in 60 countries, including groups from prominent partners such as UNICEF, USAID, World Bank, Jhiego, International Youth Foundation, and more. After taking this course, our alums have:

New This Year

Register now for the Diploma Track and receive a ticket to the 2016 MERL Tech Conference in DC, weekly office hours with leading experts, and these upgrades:

  • Improved live event system: We are making major upgrades to our gadgets and systems. We will now have two camera shots for our live events and an enhanced ability to use graphics on screen. But don’t worry, those of you watching in low bandwidth environments will still be able to toggle your resolution accordingly.
  • In-person live events [DC only]: We are thrilled to be adding an additional floor of office space below the existing TechChange loft. The plan is to use this space to host in-person events, convene networking sessions and invite course participants to watch our guest expert sessions live if they live in DC. More details to come so stay tuned.
  • New exercises and activities: In September 2014, two award-winning information designers living on different sides of Atlantic, Giorgia Lupi and Stefanie Posavec, collaborated on a year-long project to collect, visualize, and share information about their daily lives called Dear Data. This fall we’re going to have our students to try their hand at a similar month-long project and send postcards to one another. Read about two of our pioneering students who piloted it last spring here.
  • 150 Hours of Archived Footage: All live events from the past 18 months have been recorded and archived into an interactive format for you to explore in our new Diploma Lounge. We’ve also included visual notes by the amazing Katherine Haugh for each recorded session.

We also have an incredible speaker roster. Here is a sample of the guest experts you’ll hear from throughout our three online courses:

  • Tariq Khokhar, Data Scientist and Global Data Editor, World Bank
  • Emily Tomkys, ICT in Programme Officer at Oxfam
  • Rhiannan Price, Senior Manager, Digital Globe
  • Samir Doshi, Senior Scientist at USAID Global Development Lab
  • Jacob Korenblum, CEO of Souktel
  • Laura Walker McDonald, CEO, SIMLab
  • Natasha Beale, ICT4D Specialist at Equal Access
  • Greg Maly, Conflict Analyst & Training Specialist, US State Department
